Culture | Movies I'm Looking Forward To Seeing In The Upcoming Months (2016 #1)

Hello everyone! I thought I would start a new little segment that included my love for movies & cinema in general into my blog. I still don't feel I have the skills to do full movie reviews, but I do want to talk about cinema a little bit more, and I thought a segment on my most anticipated movies would be a good idea to do so! So as not to overcharge all of you with information, I will be splitting it into a few articles covering two or three months at a time. And because I've been gone most of January (because it's honestly the shittiest month of the year) I thought my first article would cover all movies until March! Let's start!

Now what you also have to know is that, while I'm trying to stick to the official coming out schedule, some movies actually do come out at different times in Belgium, and some others I still haven't seen.

The Danish Girl

Please don't hit me. I do know this movie has been out for quite a while in other countries, but it recently came out in Belgium, I think about two weeks ago. Unfortunately I've been extremely busy and haven't had the time to go see it, but I do have very high expectations for this movie. Fortunately, so do my mother & sister, which is something that I hope will force me to go watch it in the near future.

The Revenant

Again, official release date is January 8, but we are also late on that one, and I am personally not finding anyone who has yet agreed to go with me. Although the story didn't really interest me at first, it was when I finally watched the trailer that I decided I needed to see this movie. The photography looks wonderful and the atmosphere in the trailer shows how much work was put behind every decision. Again, I'll still wait until I've seen it to say anything more on the subject.

Jane Got A Gun

This one I hadn't heard about before checking out all the 2016 releases. The title intrigued me, but it was the cast that convinced me this movie was worth watching. Other than that, I also do enjoy a little Western from time to time. I can't promise I will go see this one in the theatre since it's not the one I've been waiting for the most, but it's on my "to watch" list!

The Finest Hours

This is not probably something you know since I haven't been blogging for very long, but Chris Pine is my absolute favourite actor, and I try to see all of his movies as quickly as I can. (Yes, I am that obsessed.) Now my next comment might sound a bit weird, but I truly believe he has the right face for intense acting, and if you haven't seen this film's trailer, it is intense!

The 5th Wave

I've definitely asked myself many times if this movie was worth being included on this list. Do I really want to see yet another movie about a teenager desperately trying to survive in a apocalypse setting? This answer is yes, apparently, for more than one reason. First, aliens. I do have a weird fascination for aliens, and they haven't been included in many movies recently. Second: Chloe Moretz. Yes, I do base my movie choices a lot on the cast, but frankly who doesn't? And finally, I was intrigued, since I hadn't heard anything about this movie before making this list, which was a surprising plus.

Deadpool

Here comes the funniest character in the marvel franchise. I honestly have no hope other than having a really good time & coming out of the theatre with an aching tummy because of how much I laughed. Okay, learning more about him would be nice too.

Divergent: Allegiant (part 1)

Ooooh how I hate to add that little "part 1" next to the title. There is truly nothing more I hate than movies split into two parts only to make more money. I've read the books and I was intrigued by the changes made in the movie adaption of the second one, and I am looking forward to knowing more, and seeing more of Shailene's acting.

Queen Of The Desert.

The story is a real one that takes place in the twentieth century. It is described as an adventure through the beautiful but misunderstood people of the Middle East, which a very interesting subject to me. The movie also had the chance of having an amazing trailer that left me wanting more.

That's it for my most anticipated films until March! Not a very exciting list, I know, but many more great things are coming up.

Lifestyle | I had a chill New Years Eve, and it wasn't that big of a deal.

Aaah yes, the crazy, unachievable New Year's Eve expectations. I've personally been a victim of this plague for a very long time. Growing up, and mostly getting into my teenage years, my family and me would always spend the night together, with some good food and a few movies. It wasn't until more recently that I thought more about going out with my girlfriends, using way too much glitter and drinking champagne without knowing what it's supposed to actually taste like. Due to recent events, this was no longer my plan, but I still had in mind to go stay at a friend's and ... Get my drink on.

THEN. Came the stuffed nose and the scratchy throat. From that day on I thought I was somehow cursed by an ancient witch without remembering it, and I knew I was bound to stay home and go back to my old habits. Bear with me, this did not excite me at all, at first. But then, as the 31st went on and I was constantly blowing my nose and coughing and losing my breath each time I got off the couch, I became quite happy to just stay home. (Unfortunately, we had a little bit of a food problem, but it ended up okay in the end, and that's a totally different story.)

After dropping my sister off at the party I was supposed to attend, we went straight to food. While that was cooking, my first reflex was to go grab my fluffy stars onesie and wrap myself in warm, cosy layers. (The best feeling!) Soon enough, my just-as-ill mother and I knew we wanted to watch a movie while enjoying our food. We had a bit of a problem on Christmas Eve though, so going through movie lists was a complicated process and I now know not to trust every movie list I see online. We settled on Sex & The City, which was such a refreshing choice! It's not as centered around New Year's as the website tried to make us believe, but it was a wonderful mother-daughter moment, that also made me realise getting a shoe proposal is my biggest dream in life. Of course we didn't just end the night here, after a bit of fireworks, we obviously went back to the couch to eat an entire tub of Ben & Jerry Cookie Dough ice cream while watching Larry Crowne (trailer here), one of my personal favourite movies. It puts a giant smile on my face with its cheery attitude and great funny yet simple moments. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone feeling a bit down, especially those of you who think it's too late to start a new project! Overall, I'd say I went to bed happy, and I would gladly do it all again.

Lots of love for this new year,
Xélia.

Fashion | A great shopping experience: Christmas Shopping At Scotch & Soda

Aaah yes, December, that wonderful time of the year when everyone goes shopping crazy for the holidays. I personally tend to do my christmas shopping after my exams, whenever I'm finished and have some time to kill before having to catch a bus. In my house, we usually fish a name out of a hat and get a present for that person only, which makes it easier for a big family with mostly children. Today's story is not me looking for a present, but me witnessing a wonderful christmas miracle!

The brand Scotch & Soda opened a store in my small town not that long ago, that actually made a lot of noise: It's in a church, which left most of us curious and waiting to see the result. Unfortunately, I had forgotten about it until very recently, when I went to have a look inside, fell in love with a pricy coat and never went back. It was only last week, when my mother and I went christmas shopping for my father, that I went back. (Disclaimer: my father is a hard person to shop for. His hobby doesn't make it easy to find anything within a reasonable price range, and he either gets coffee mugs or socks. )

Anyway, I suggested that we go inside, at first to show her what they made of the inside of the church (the store was made beautifully, I'm so sad I don't have pictures!) but not to shop. What a surprise! We found everything we were looking for & more.

I'd like to thank both women who took care of us, although they'll probably never read this, for such good advice and a polite and welcoming attitude that surprised me. The store can have an Abercrombie feel to it, with the perfume filling the air and everyone working there being as stylish as possible.

We bought my father's present, clothes of course, and both my mother and I are determined to go back whenever we need something new for him. I'm personally going back for the perfume and to shop for myself. Overall, I was surprised by how pleasant everything was compared to what my mind had made of the place.

Also check out the clothes, they have some amazing pieces!

Youtube | Videos For The End Of 2015

Just a small post to get all my videos together! There's the obvious december favourites, which is a thing I'm going to try to do every month, then the very festive What I Got For Christmas, and finally a thing I'm trying out where I talk a little bit about music, and mostly my favourite albums of the year 2015! Hope you like it

Youtube | First Video

Here is my first video! I thought I'd start with something that I know very well, since it's an issue I've struggled with for quite a while. My collection is one that has been growing for a while, and I personally use those products myself to guarantee clean and fresh hair. Don't forget to give it a thumbs up if you like what you see, and subscribe for more! You can also follow me on all my social media.
